MARIE VYSE - MBE

ClifARA are proud to be able to report that Marie was awarded the MBE in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours. This is in recognition of the tireless voluntary work she has undertaken and still undertakes to this day even though she is now aged 89. Marie came to Cliffe at the end of WW2 and soon formed a committee to raise funds for the Memorial Hall in memory of those who lost their lives in the war. In 1946 she helped inaugurate the Village Youth Club and from the 1950’s helped her husband run the local Youth Football Club and in the 70’s became involved with the Scouts and Guides  earning an award as Ambassador for Girl Guiding. She still continues as Treasurer for Cliffe Woods Ladies Club and Cliffe Woods Community Association and is on the campaign trail to raise funds to enlarge our Community Centre. This is only a snapshot of all she has done for the village and in July ClifARA held a special celebration tea party for her with sandwiches and a large iced cake. No-one could be more deserving of this award.
